The riverbed Brunei is a settlement , consisting of four dozen villages , which are located literally on the water .

It's called Kampong Ayer and its history has lasted for more than 1300 years .

There live about 30 thousand people , representing over 10% of the total population of the whole country .

Schools , police stations , fire stations , hospitals , markets and houses are on stilts . All facilities connects more than 36 kilometers of bridges .

Initially Kampong Ayer placed slightly downstream of Brunei , close to its mouth .

Over time , the settlement gradually " moved " up the river .
