Stone figures rise above the overgrown grass and turf forest in the Chinese province of Guizhou.

Their eyes, always open, fixed their eyes through the lush landscapes.

Although the creatures on the rocky base look like magical remains of long-deceased ancient settlements, they are relatively

modern creations.

In fact, these stunning sculptures are made by Songa Peiloon, an artist, a cartoonist and a former professor.

He spent 20 years developing an extensive gallery of stone figures.

Known as the Yulang Valley, a massive collection of works of art includes castles, lakes, freestanding towers adorned with various faces.

Local Masons helped Song Peiloon with the construction, although they all did not have any artistic experience, Peiloon instructed

them to make the basics of the sculptures, as if they were making pigsties.

Song Peilong began building Yulang after visiting the Frenzied Horse Memorial on a trip to the United States.

He left his job as a professor and purchased a plot of land. The artist decided to build a mystical sculpture park of stone.

All the sculptures had to be ecologically clean and cheap and the park itself would be accessible for free visiting by spectators.

The Yulang Valley is his way of honoring and reminiscing about the Yulang tribe, who inhabited this area almost 2,000 years ago,

before disappearing and leaving a few artifacts.

Although this area used to be mostly rural and quite isolated, several university buildings have already been built here.

Students sometimes help Song Peilong to continue building to constantly develop a work of art.
