In the Chinese province of Guangxi village elders tell the ancient adage: where there is soil, there is a terrace.

In Guangxi province, two hours away from the city of Guilin, the problem of the cultivation of rice has long been solved on steep hills.

At the end of the thirteenth century, during the reign of the Yuan Dynasty began a colossal work of terracing hills Longsheng

to provide the rice harvest.

It took four hundred years for terrace equipment, also known as LongDzhi.

During this time, countless generations worked on the terraces, to provide the annual rice crop, which made

it possible to feed their families.

However, engaging in the issue of food security, the Chinese have created a landscape of stunning beauty.

Not surprisingly, the Chinese call it "amazing terrace".

Beauty of places varies from season to season.

During spring and rain showers terraces filled with a transparent surface of the water.

Summer brings green waves of rice on hillsides. In autumn, when the harvest is ripe, the fields become golden brown.

A winter garden covered with snow.

During the Yuan Dynasty in the area there was a problem with food. In the hills it was impossible to

grow rice and a lot of people to migrate to other areas.

Resourceful engineers have found a way out of this situation, start creating right on the hill terraces for growing rice.

It is human ingenuity at its best - the only natural rainfall water in this mountainous region.

Winter melting snow and spring rain showers just enough to grow rice.

erraces are staggered so that not a drop is wasted.

Hundreds of different nationalities living in this area in China is the Zhuang, Dong and Yao, who inhabit villages around terraces.

People still have basically the traditional clothing.

For centuries, rice terraces belong to the families and passed down from generation to generation.

Each household produces sufficient quantities of rice to feed themselves.

Nevertheless, there is always room for small pleasures. Part of the harvest each year is used to make rice wine.

Twenty-first century, of course, brought a strong social changes in their way of life of indigenous peoples.

Now many young people to leave here in the big city in search of a better life.

Although the terraces are still handled by locals, now they are no longer the main source of income for local people.

Terraces today are unprofitable. It is impossible to grow rice at competitive prices, simply because the terraces are too small

to significantly grow the rice harvest.

Currently, however, the terrace, more and more used to attract tourists.
