The town of Sorrento is located in the Campania region in the south - west of Italy , and it is an exciting place for leisure travelers from around the world .

Sorrento is built right into the cliffs overlooking the Bay of Naples , so that there are always beautiful views of the water .

 As the Sorrento is right on water , many visitors come here for , to make the  coastal walks , and relax on the beautiful beaches . to top it off ,

in Sorrento is located countless historical and cultural attractions , such as the Roman ruins of Villa Pollio, or ruins the entire city of Pompeii .

1.Pompeii

One of the most popular day trips from Sorrento  - will lead tourists to the city of Pompeii , which is only 24 kilometers to the north along the Italian coast . Pompey have a history , which has more than two millennia , but most people know that the city of - the devastating eruption of Vesuvius in 79 g .

2.Amalfi Coast

You can take a water taxi directly from Sorrento and to reach the island of Capri , which is only three miles from the coast of the Italian mainland .

Capri has long been a popular island for recreation , which liked to rest even  the Roman emperors .

4.Vesuvius

Behind the ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum, you can see the towering peak of Mount Vesuvius . Although it is known for its eruption in 79 g . N . E .,

Vesuvius is now considered a dormant volcano and is just an hour away from Sorrento by car .

5.Herculaneum

Despite the fact , that this place is not so popular , as Pompeii , Herculaneum suffered the same fate after a volcanic eruption about 2000 years ago .

Many of the old buildings of the city is actually better preserved , than at Pompeii , which makes it an ideal destination for history buffs and architecture .

6.Naples

Odnnu of the most exciting day trips you can take from Sorrento to Naples , which can be reached by train in about an hour .

7.Paestum

Slightly less , than two hours by car from Sorrento is located in Paestum , a sleepy town , yet here there is some of the best preserved Greek ruins

 in the world . The settlement of Paestum was founded around 2,600 years ago , and soon the founders - the Greeks built three spectacular temple at

Paestum . These temples , dedicated to the gods Hera , Poseidon and Athena ,   all  still standing to this day  surrounded by other ruins of

Greek grammar and the remnants of the city wall .

8.Ischia

Ischia is the most advanced and the largest of the islands in the Gulf of Naples . Before Ischia can be directly reached by ferry from Sorrento,
