1. Sarov (Russian Federation)
Only a few knew about the existence of this city during the Soviet period outside of it. Today Serov is displayed even on maps, but still remains a place with limited access. And all because of a number of military developments and tests carried out there related to nuclear energy. Today, the entry into the city is carried out under the strict control of people and a system of video surveillance cameras, and only those who have a special pass can enter the territory. Local residents have the opportunity to invite only relatives to Sarov.
2. Priozersk (Kazakhstan)
Another closed Soviet city, which, although it ended up in another state after the collapse of the USSR, has not lost its status. Priozersk is located in the Karaganda region of Kazakhstan and is the administrative center of the Sary-Shagan military training ground. In fact, the city is spread out in the Betpak-Dala desert (in the Hungry Steppe) on the Korzhyntubek peninsula. The reason for the closed status of the city is the fact that today there is a military training ground for testing anti-missile systems designed to intercept ballistic missiles.
3. Mecca and Medina (Saudi Arabia)
Usually both of these cities are mentioned together. And not only because they are holy Muslim cities. The thing is that if it is not very difficult to get to the territory of Saudi Arabia, then to Mecca and Medina it is much more difficult. Only representatives of Islam are allowed to enter there, the rest are prohibited. The only opportunity to see the unique architecture and the place where the Prophet Muhammad lived and died is to become part of a group of Muslim pilgrims.
4. Pyongyang (DPRK)
The fact that North Korea does not shine with freedom is a well-known fact. However, for tourists, these restrictions work especially carefully, if only because not everyone will be allowed there at all. So, in Pyongyang, the entry of Americans, South Koreans is prohibited, and there is also a ban on the type of activity - journalists will not be allowed there. Other tourists to visit the capital of North Korea must apply for a visa at least one month before visiting the country. In addition, the number of tourists is also strictly controlled, and those who nevertheless managed to get there will not feel much freedom, because they have no right to move anywhere without a guide. Although today, in comparison with the past, they made a relief - they stopped taking away phones at customs.
5. Mogadishu (Somalia)
Somalia is generally associated with danger for many people, if only because of the notorious pirates. However, in reality, everything is much more global: for two decades now, there has been a civil war on the territory of this state, therefore Somalia is considered the second country in the world from among the most closed countries - the primacy of North Korea. Therefore, it is not surprising that the capital of Somalia, Mogadishu, also has limited access: according to the Novate editorial office, no more than 18 thousand foreigners visit it a year, and the share of tourists among them is minimal.
6. Nordelta (Argentina)
There are also closed settlements on the other side of the planet. However, perhaps the most unusual among them is the Argentinean Nordelta, located near Buenos Aires. This city was founded in 1999 and is an ecovillage with a population of about a hundred people. Nordelta has all the infrastructure necessary for life - even a school was built for local children. But its inhabitants do not seek to let strangers into their town: only they themselves and those whom they invite can enter the territory.
7. San Pedro Sula (Honduras)
In Somalia alone, the dangerous places on the planet do not end there. So, for example, in a number of ratings, the city of San Pedro Sula, in Honduras, is considered the most dangerous settlement on Earth. And all because the highest crime rate is noted here, mainly due to the dominance of cartels in the territory. Although the places there are truly picturesque: San Pedro Sula is located just 60 kilometers from the Caribbean Sea.
