1.Sanctuary of Las Lajas, Colombia

Built at an altitude of 100 meters inside the canyon of the Guaitara River, this church became a place of pilgrimage after the Virgin 

Mary appeared here to a woman and her deaf-mute daughter who were caught in a violent storm in the 18th century.

 The actual Gothic church was built between 1916 and 1949, and a bridge connects it to the opposite side of the canyon.

 

 

2.Borgund stave church, Norway

In 1180, the inhabitants of the village of Borgund, in the southern part of Norway, built a new church. 

But unlike the old churches, which have rotted, this church was built on a stone foundation and therefore has survived to this day. 

The medieval wooden Christian church still stands today in Borgund, and if you are planning a trip to Europe on your own , 

be sure to visit it, because it now works as a museum of the Society for the Preservation of Ancient Monuments of Norway.

 

 

3.Bethlehem Church, Iran

Also known as the Church of Bethlehem, this 17th century Armenian Apostolic Church is located in Isfahan. 

It is adorned with 72 delightful icons, including images of the Last Supper and the expulsion from Eden.

 

 

4.Chapel of Notre Dame du Eau, France

The building in eastern France, known since the 18th century as Notre-Dame-du Haut "Our Lady of the Highest", has become

a place of pilgrimage.

 In the early 20th century, the chapel suffered serious damage, first from fire and then from bombing during the liberation

 in 1944 during World War II.

 

 

5.Viskri Fortress Church, Romania

Castle, chapel, now a church. 

This place of worship, a Lutheran church originally built as a chapel, was converted into a single nave church in the 16th century. 

Seven-meter fortifications have surrounded it since the 12th century. The interior is relatively simple with dark wood paneling.

 

 

6.Gergeti Church, Georgia

This church rises in the green and white mountains of the Caucasus, below the summit of Mount Kazbek, which makes Gergeti Church so magnificent. Built in the 14th century, it has a separate bell tower and is often used as a navigational landmark for travelers.

 

 

7.King's College Chapel

The King's College Chapel was built in 1446 by King Henry VI and has the largest collection of medieval stained glass windows 

in the world.

8.Church of Saint George, Ethiopia.

It is one of 11 monolithic hewn churches at Lalibela in central Ethiopia. 

In the 12th century, King Lalibela set out to create the "New Jerusalem" when Christian pilgrimages to the Middle East were hampered by Muslim conquests and the structures have since become an important place of worship for Coptic Christians.

 

 

9.St. Bartholomew, Lake Königssee.

The pilgrimage church in Bavaria, Germany, St. Bartholomew, can only be reached by boat or by long hike. 

The building was completed in 1134, but later Baroque domes and red roofs were added in the 1600s.

 

 

10.Hallgrimskirkja, Iceland

Hallgrimskirkja Church is 73 meters high and is the tallest building in Reykjavik. 

It was built in the expressionist style, supposedly influenced by Icelandic basaltic lava. 

The construction of the church began in 1945 and was completed 38 years later.

 

 

11.Russian Orthodox Church of Mary Magdalene, Jerusalem

A beautiful example of Moscow architecture on the slope of the Mount of Olives, this church was consecrated in 1888 and has ties 

to the British monarchy. 

This is the final resting place of Princess Andrew of Greece, mother of the Duke of Edinburgh, whose remains were transferred 

to the crypt under the church, in accordance with her wishes in 1988. 

Today the church in the Garden of Gethsemane is used for daily worship.

 

 

12.Sagrada Surname, Sagrada Familia, Spain

The full name of the basilica is the Temple of Ehpiatori de la Sagrada Familia, and it was designed by Antoni Gaudí. 

Construction work began in 1882 and for a long time it was in a constantly unfinished state.

 

 

13.Church of the Transfiguration on Kizhi Island, Russia

Amazing wooden churches in Kizhi, on an island in Lake Onega in western Russia. The 22-domed Church of the Transfiguration reaches a height of 37 meters and was built in the early 18th century without a single nail.

 Inside it is decorated with 102 icons in the iconostasis. Kizhi Island is a popular pilgrimage site for tourists on the Volga, 

who cruise between St. Petersburg and Moscow.

 

 

14.Chapel Palatine, Sicily

This splendid chapel in Palazzo Reale in Palermo is covered in intricate gold mosaics. 

The scenes include the life of Saint John in the wilderness and a group of five saints, along with secular depictions of plants 

and animals. The building dates back to 1132, when the chapel was commissioned by Roger II of Sicily.

 

 

15.Sainte-Chapelle, Paris

Visitors to Paris know about the Eiffel Tower, but in fact, the crown of the architectural landmark of Paris is the Sainte Chapelle chapel. The medieval Gothic chapel on the Ile de la Cité in the Seine, with a 33-meter spire, is decorated with 13th-century stained 

glass windows inside. It is believed that Sainte-Chapelle was built by King Louis IX.

 

 

16.St Bartholomew the Great, London

This place of worship in the City of London may sound familiar - films such as Four Weddings and a Funeral, Shakespeare, 

Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves and Another Boleyn were filmed here. Founded in 1123 by an Anglo-Norman priest, 

the church has been favored by prominent figures throughout history.

 

 

17.Felsenkirch, Germany

This church was built in a natural niche in the Oberstein mountains in West Germany between 1482-1484. 

The observation deck was opened in 2003.

 

18.Church of Dmitry on the Blood, Uglich, Russia

Uglich became a place of pilgrimage in the 17th century, when the supposedly murdered son of Ivan the Terrible, Tsarevich Dimitri, 

began to be venerated as a saint. 

Today, visitors to Uglich will be amazed by the red and blue church on its way on the Volga - the city is a popular destination 

for river cruises.

 

 

19.St. Stephen's Church, Iran

This secluded Armenian church is located in the very northwest of Iran. Vaults, arches and domes are decorated with frescoes. 

Some believe that the bones in the gilded reliquary are the relics of St. Gregory.

 

 

20.Church of the Nativity, West Bank.

Built by the order of Emperor Constantine in 372 AD, this church, located above the "Grotto", is traditionally considered the birthplace of Jesus Christ in Bethlehem. Today it is an important place of worship and a place of pilgrimage for many people to the Holy Land.

 

 

21.Matthias Church, Hungary

This Roman Catholic church in Buda was built in the late Gothic style. Badly damaged during World War II, its reconstruction was completed in 2013 and the gallery now contains a copy of the Hungarian royal crown.

 

 

22.Crown of Thorns Chapel, USA

The Crown of Thorns Chapel in Arkansas is one of the most unique wooden buildings in America. 

With a custom design for a place of worship, this church has won several architectural awards and has attracted six million visitors 

since it opened in 1980.

 

 

23.Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood, St. Petersburg

This church was built on the exact spot where the Russian Emperor Alexander II the Liberator died in March 1881 as a result of 

an assassination attempt.
