Canon CINE-SERVO 50-1000mm T5.0-8.9 Ultra-Telephoto Zoom
In 2010, the German filmmaker Ivo Nørenberg, specializing in wildlife photography, proposed Canon to create an "impossible" lens,
and the manufacturer accepted the challenge.
This is how the story of the creation of the extreme long-focus Canon CINE-SERVO 50-1000mm T5.0-8.9 Ultra-Telephoto Zoom
cost about 70 000 dollars.
SaveNörenberg had clear requirements for his "dream lens for shooting wildlife."
He wanted to combine such functions and characteristics, which then sounded funny.
Ivo planned to shoot full-frame camera objects in the height of a meter and a half (the growth of many wild animals) from a distance
of about 100 meters.
Canon decided that the lens based on the Super 35 sensor had a focal length in the "body" position of 1000mm.
But Nuremberg still wanted to shoot the same TV landscapes, so the developers decided that the wide end should be 50mm.
So, determined that you need a 50-1000mm lens with a 20-x zoom.
Camcorders with a powerful zoom, as a rule, large and bulky, and Nöhrenberg wanted the lens to be compact and lightweight
: weighing less than 7 kilograms and not exceeding 40 centimeters in length.
The combination of a large range of focal lengths and compact design - that's what made the task difficult to implement.
The company acknowledged that it was "the most complex project ever undertaken by the Canon optical design team".
Nevertheless, representatives of Canon said that "the challenge was accepted."
After many brain storms and design work, the world was presented with a long-focus CINE-SERVO 50-1000mm zoom lens .
It was officially announced in October 2014, and it was launched in 2015.
Canon went beyond Nerenberg's requests and built a 1.5x teleconverter into the lens, which, when turned on, increases the focal length range to 1500mm, providing it with a 30x zoom range.
" Canon really really embodied my requests for technical characteristics and my ideas 100% ," Nörenberg said.
