Scientists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) created the SoFi fish-robot

to observe the inhabitants of the underwater world without frightening them.

It has a streamlined shape, can wiggle its tail and fins.

The device is equipped with a camera and can take photos and videos.

As a rule, for research of marine inhabitants scientists dive with aqualungs and video cameras.

At the same time, this method has a drawback: fish notice an extraneous object,

change their behavior and try to hide.

The device created by the American experts allows to conduct underwater shooting without hindrances.

SoFi has the shape of a fish with four fins. The device can move in all directions.

The hydraulic tail has two cavities, where the pump delivers water.

Puffing, cavities bend the structure in the right direction.

Most of the body SoFi is made of silicone rubber and flexible plastic.

In addition, several components (including the head of the robots) were printed on a 3D printer.

To monitor the inhabitants of underwater depths, a camera is installed in the nose of the robot.

The device has already been tested on a coral reef in the waters of Fiji, reports news.mit .

In the course of the test, which lasted 40 minutes, the digging was submerged to a depth of 15 meters.
The robot can be controlled with a waterproof remote control that uses ultrasonic signals.

Scientists call SoFi "a new type of instrument for ocean research."

According to research, such a robot can become a "step to the creation of an underwater laboratory."
