보빗 웜(Bobbit Worms)

일명 보빗 벌레로 불리는 왕털갯지렁이(학명: Eunice aphroditois)의 일종으로 환형동물문 다모강에 속한다. 몸길이는 최대 3m, 몸너비는 3cm 정도되며, 체절(몸의 마디)수는 500개에 이른다. 전 세계 온대, 열대 수역 얕은 바다에 널리 분포하며 암초지역의 틈새나 죽은 산호 아래에 서식한다.

   

이들은 완벽한 매복형 포식자로 모래에서부터 약 10분의 1정도만 몸을 노출하는데 무언가가 감지되면 자신보다 훨씬 큰 동물들에게도 달려든다고 한다. 특히 이들의 공격은 때때로 먹이를 절반으로 잘라버릴 정도로 강력하다.

가장 위험한 갯지렁이로 알려져 있으며 교미뒤 암컷이 수컷의 생식기를 물어뜯어 먹는다고 알려져 자신을 범하고 아이를 낙태시킨 남편 존 웨인 보빗이 자고 있을때 생식기를 절단해 유명해진 아내 로레나 보빗에게서 이름을 따왔다고 한다.

Unofficially Eunice aphroditois called worm Bobbita by Lorena Bobbitt surname, main supernumerary sensational case in 1996, which cut off the penis of her husband. Eunice aphroditois got the nickname because of his sharp and powerful jaws, but no evidence that the representatives of its kind ever attacked sailing over it people do not have.

Live worms in the warm waters and are found in both the Atlantic Ocean and in the Pacific.
