1.Kyoto, Japan

The best places to see Sakura are along the Biwa Canal Lake; Shirakawa Canal; The Way of the Philosopher; Kiage bias; around Yasaka Pagoda and Kodai-ji Temple.

 

2.Paris, France

Some particularly good spots: Place Marie Trintignant on the outskirts of the Marais; A plant garden with an ancient cherry tree; the hidden garden of the Lesser Palais and Notre Dame Cathedral; Coule Werth, the Parisian equivalent of the New York High Line; and the Martin Luther King Park at Batignolles.

 

3.Washington DC (USA)

The best place to see them is at the Tidal Basin and its surroundings, and along the East Potomac Park coastline, which extends to Haynes Point and around the National Mall.

 

4.Chateau Sau, France

 This is a double hit of viewing cherry blossoms. You will not only get a picturesque French castle located in a garden, designed by the outstanding gardener Le Nôtre, famous for Versailles and Tuileries, but also a whole garden with flowering trees. The Sault Garden is just 30 minutes by train from central Paris, and away from the city you will stroll through the manicured gardens around the castle. There are about 150 trees in the immediate vicinity, and the density of fluffy pink flowers is unlike anything you've ever seen.

 

5.Edinburgh, Scotland

The best spot is a large public park called Luga, where paths are lined with cherry trees, forming pink tunnels. There are also Princes Street Gardens, Royal Botanic Gardens, St Andrew's Square, Cockburn Street, Canongate Kirk and Harrison Park.

 

6.Seattle, Washington (USA)

Seattle is known for its rainfall, with an average of 152 rainy days per year, and the sky is grayer than most North American cities. But that doesn't stop Seattle from offering sakura to its weather-weary citizens every spring. Especially famous is the beautiful old campus of the University of Washington, whose garden and the Liberal Arts Quadrangle (known as the Square) are planted with cherry trees. But there are also Seattle Japanese Gardens, Jefferson Park, Azalea Path at Washington Park Arboretum, and Kobe Terrace.

 

7.Bonn, Germany

Heerstrasse and Breitstrasse. Heerstrasse was actually named Cherry Avenue, with cherry trees standing on either side of the road just outside the old city center. The trees form a solid pink canopy in the spring that attracts thousands of people outside. The Breitstrasse runs parallel to the Heerstrasse (almost) and is just as picturesque, but slightly less crowded.

 

8.Osaka, Japan

For hanami, much of Japan is exceptional, but Osaka offers an additional setting that makes it very photogenic indeed: Osaka Castle. The castle dates back to 1597 and there are 4,000 cherry trees growing in the park in front of it, so when they bloom, you can take beautiful bloom footage through which you can see the castle. Other hotspots in Osaka are Kema Sakuranomiya Park (5,000 trees are impressive), Expo 70 Memorial Park, Osaka Mint and Tsurumi Riyokushi Park.

 

9.Jerte Valley, Spain

When you thought thousands of cherry trees were something special, welcome to the Jerte Valley in central Spain, about three hours from the capital. This is the region of Spain where cherries are grown, and it is in this valley that - wait - 1.5 million cherry trees grow. They are more snow-white than pink, but this does not detract from the spectacle.

 

10.London, England

London is the capital, which is defined by numerous parks. Spring is a great time to visit because the parks come alive and also because there are surprisingly many places to admire cherry blossoms. The best parks for a pink roof picnic are Greenwich Park, Regent's Park, Kew Gardens and Kyoto Park in Holland Gardens.

 

11.Stockholm, Sweden

The capital of Sweden is another northern city that you would not necessarily choose as a cherry blossom spot. However, it is actually a paradise for all kinds of flowers, including a great spot for pink fluffy cherry blossoms. Everyone will tell you that Kungsträdgården, the Royal Garden, is the best place. 

 

12.Vancouver, Canada

Vancouver hosts an annual Sakura Blossom Festival, which suggests that there are some decent spots to admire the bloom here. Queen Elizabeth Park and VanDusen Botanical Gardens are not one but several types of cherry blossoms. Good places to start exploring the variety of cherry blossoms in bloom. In addition, there is Stanley Park, which is beautiful with a wide variety of spring flowers.

 

13.Amsterdam, Netherlands

The best cherry trees (400 whites) grow in Kersenblusempark (also called Blusempark). Even more white trees can be seen in Westerpark, and pink trees along the Amstel canal, next to the Japanese hotel Okura.

 

14.Auckland, New Zealand

Last but not least is Auckland. Just in case you missed the northern hemisphere cherry blossom season, there is another chance to do so in September when the spring season begins in the southern hemisphere. Cornwall Park in Auckland in Epsom has a cluster of cherry trees and is a popular picnic spot, and Auckland's botanical gardens have an entire Spring Blossom Valley that has everything from daffodils to cherry blossoms.
